The business was founded in 2012 by state-registered dietitian Niamh O’Connor.

Consultant Registered Dietitian & Nutritionist

Niamh is an honours graduate of Trinity College Dublin & Dublin Institute of Technology. She completed her 5 years university training with internships at St. James Hospital Dublin & Cork University Hospital, and has practised as a dietitian in Ireland since 1993. The majority of her clinical posts were senior & single-handed positions in large teaching hospitals throughout the country, working in areas such as paediatrics, intensive care, surgery, diabetes, oncology, gastroenterology & cardiology.  She also worked as a senior research nutritionist with the Irish Universities Nutrition Alliance for 3 years.

In 1999, Niamh founded Cork Nutrition Consultancy, a full time private dietetic practice & nutrition consultancy, the very first of its kind in Cork and the southern region, and remains the longest established. To date, Niamh has worked in all areas of the nutrition and dietetic profession (including clinical dietetics, community nutrition, lecturing, TV/radio both locally & nationally, marketing/PR, business, national research & scientific writing), and brings this wealth of 26 years experience to all her patients & clients. She has a special interest in Paediatrics, Diabetes and Gastroenterology (particularly Coeliac Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s disease and IBS).

Niamh is registered with CORU (Ireland’s statutory body for regulating healthcare professionals), and is also a member of the Irish Nutrition & Dietetic Institute (INDI), the professional organisation for qualified state-registered dietitians/clinical nutritionists in Ireland. In 2008 she founded SEDI (a professional support & networking group for Self-Employed Freelance Consultant Dietitians in Ireland) which represents a small group of entrepreneurial dietitians. Individually, SEDI dietitians offer private dietetic clinics, Corporate Nutrition Services & Freelance Consultancy throughout the country. Collectively the SEDI group can offer businesses a range of professional support on projects which can be rolled out nationwide.

She is also a busy mum of two energetic teenagers; she’s an accomplished pianist (Associate of the Victoria of Music, London), addicted to shoes, partial to chocolate and a glass of Malbec!
